The
Keynote Speech: Leadership Storytelling
Stories
are fundamental to human character. Leaders use stories to spark
attention and get people to follow their lead. John Baldoni believes
that stories can be powerful tools to help us understand who we
are and what we can achieve. Stories enrich the work life experience
in ways that enable us to illuminate our character and gain insight
into the world in which we live.
John
uses stories of great men and women to draw parallels with the way
people who came before us dealt with the challenges evoked by economic,
social, political and technological change.
Among
the greats that John often cites are George Washington for authenticity,
Abraham Lincoln for character, Winston Churchill for courage, Mother
Theresa for grace, Thich Nhat Hanh for humility, Crazy Horse for
sacrifice, Earnest Shackleton for perseverance, Bill Veeck for sense
of fun, Ronald Reagan for charisma, and Franklin Roosevelt for persistence.
Using
stories, leaders can frame a current experience through the prism
of context and character. Good storytellers use context to set up
the story and characters to drive the story. Storytellers also make
lessons come alive in ways that audiences remember. Sometimes good
stories can provoke individuals re-examine their circumstances and
consider making changes that benefit the team as well as themselves.
John
Baldoni speaks to the nature of personal leadership and how leaders
achieve INSPIRED results by developing the talents and skills of
others. John’s keynotes and workshops on communications, motivation
and leadership combine real-world experience with hands-on practice.
By relating real-life stories, often with humor, John is able to
create leadership lessons that are actionable as well as inspirational.
